MAMAS ON THE MEND

We can hardly think of something more stressful than being pregnant during 2020. A year where a global pandemic has isolated us from loved ones and remains on the rise, a polarizing election, cultural unrest, rampant wildfires in some areas, and massive flooding in others- yeah, moms-to-be need a little extra love right now. Breathing exercises alone aren’t going to cut it. To soothe stress and restore wellness to the body, many doctors are recommending pregnant women seek out Prenatal Massages.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, Prenatal massages help expectant mothers with:

● Reduced back pain.

● Reduced joint pain.

● Improved circulation.

● Reduced edema.

● Reduced muscle tension and headaches.

● Reduced stress and anxiety.

● Improved oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles.

● Better sleep.

Prenatal massages have been recommended for up to a decade, citing hormone levels associated with stress are lowered, and hormones associated with relaxation are increased. Not only does that mean improved mood, but also cardiovascular health, which is vital for not only mom, but baby as well.

Swelling (Edema) is very common in a pregnancy, affecting muscles and joints. During a prenatal massage, those soft tissues are stimulated and reduce the fluids in the joints. Or If you are experiencing Sciatic nerve pain, the weight and pressure of the uterus affecting the nerves and muscles in the legs, we can help you to release that tension and pressure.

It’s recommended you speak with your doctor before getting a prenatal massage if you’ve had complications, but otherwise it’s deemed a healthy practice after the first trimester. Feeling the effects of a crappy year? Or just feeling like pregnancy has taken a toll on your body? Take a minute for yourself (and your baby) and get some help to unwind, and enjoy the precious moment you are experiencing together here and now.
